Antakya/Antioch, historically known as Antioch, is the southernmost city of Turkey. The city is located in a well-watered and fertile valley on the Orontes River, about 20 kilometers (12 mil) from the Mediterrenian Sea.

The history of the city dates back to 7000 years ago, but The Golden Age begins with the establishment of the city by Seleucid Nikotor, the commander of Alexander. During the Roman Empire, it became the 4^th largest city in the world with a population of approximately 300 thousand people. With its proximity to Jerusalem, Antioch became a key point where Christianity began to spread outside of Jerusalem.

Paul, who is called the apostle of non-Jewish Christians, carried out mission activities in this city. He founded the first church of Christianity here and the word christian was used here for the first time. As it is an important port city of the Roman Empire, the world’s largest mosaic museum is also located here. Since it contains different cultures, Antakya cuisine is miscellaneous and delicious.
