Day 1: Mardin (L)
We will meet you at the airport of Mardin and drive to Mardin city center. After 30 min. drive, we will reach Mardin old city center. Mardin is one of the most important cities in southeastern Turkey. The city has large populations of Kurds, Arabs, and Assyrians. Mardin is an important regional trading center on the east-west trade routes of southern Anatolia.
We will start our tour with old city center which is founded at the top of the mountain. The historical stone streets of Mardin will fascinate you! By the lunch time we will eat in the most famous restaurant of Mardin. You will have chance to try most delicious Mesopotamian food.
After lunch a little walk in city center and meet with the driver and drive to Kasimiye Madrassa which was a university in Artuklu period. After all the visit we will transfer you to your hotel.
You will have your dinner here and overnight.
Day 2: Dara / Nusaybin / Midyat (L)
After breakfast you will meet with your guide and start a full day tour around Mardin region.
After a 15 min. drive you will reach to Deyrulzafaran Monastery. Deyrulzafaran- once the ecumenical seat of the Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Congregation dating back to 5th century- is the most important religious center of the Syriac Orthodox Christians. It is still a running monastery, here you have a guided tour to monastery, after visiting here we will drive another important visit, Dara Ancient City. Drive will take around 40 min. and place will amaze you. Dara city founded 500 BC and it was an important Assyrian settlement. Here you will see necropolis area and then water cistern and you can be sure that you haven’t seen a place as interesting as this. After this amazing place, we will have 45 min. journey to Nusaybin city which was equivalent to Singapore 5000 B.C.! Amazing trade city and multicultural population. Here we will visit St. Jacob Church, which is a very important place for the historical development of Christianity. After Nusaybin, we will drive through one of most beautiful roads and reach to Beyazsu Region. We will have lunch by The River Beyazsu. After lunch about 45 min., we will reach to Midyat City. Midyat has the largest Assyrian population in the region. City is famous with local Assyrian wines, pastries and silversmiths.
After walking around in city center, we will drive back to Mardin and overnight in here.
Day 3: Gobeklitepe / Sanliurfa (L)
After breakfast in Mardin, early in the morning we will drive to Gobeklitepe (2 hours). Gobeklitepe which is one of the world’s most important archaeological sites. Gobeklitepe, Neolithic site near Sanliurfa in southeastern Turkey. The site, believed to have been a sanctuary of ritual significance, is marked by layers of carved megaliths and is estimated to date to the 9th–10th millennium BCE. At 12,000 years old, it was built before the advent of writing or pottery and is believed to be the world’s oldest temple which is causing archaeologists to rethink their vision of early human history. In excavated site you will see a number of T-Shaped limestone megaliths, some of which surpass 16 feet (5 meters) in height and weigh as much as 50 tons, are arranged in circular formations. After visiting this very important place we will have 30 min. transfer to Sanliurfa City Center. We will visit archeology museum and Haleplibahce Mosaic Museum. After museums we will take you to Sanliurfa old city center to Balıklıgöl Area. Sanliurfa is a city of huge religious significance, believed to be the birth place of the prophet Abraham/Ibrahim, and the site of one of the most important events in The Bible and The Quran. Sanliurfa, with its wealth of Biblical associations, is known as the “Jerusalem of Anatolia” and regarded as a holy site by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike. According to the Old Testament, the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), “The Father of Three Monotheistic Religions”, was born in the city of Ur and he, together with his family, migrated to Harran- “The Home of The Patriarchs”. Christianity reached Edessa about 150 CE, and the city became the seat of what was soon the most important bishopric in Syria. A sizable body of early Christian literature in the Syriac language was produced at Edessa. You will have free time in city center.
End of the tour we will transfer you to hotel and overnight here.
Day 4: Nemrut Mountain (L)
On our 4th day tour we will visit mountain of the Gods, common sanctuary of the eastern and western Gods! After breakfast and check out from our hotel in Sanliurfa, we 3 hours journey to Adiyaman, Nemrut Mountain. Our visit to this holy place will take around 1 hour. Mount Nemrut is both a volcanic mountain, a natural monument and a man-made historical artifact. The peak of the mountain, at an altitude of about 2200 m, was ornamented with gigantic statues by the Commagene Kingdom. Many points of the huge monument are still unreachable, making the site quite mysterious. After our visit to Mt. Nemrut, we will drive to Kahta, on the way visit the ruins of the Arsemia, Roman Bridge of Cendere and royal tomb of Karakus.
End of the tour we will drive 2 hours to Gaziantep and overnight here.
Day 5: Antakya (L)
Our last day visit is Antakya city. After breakfast and check out from our hotel in Gaziantep we will have 3 hours journey to Antakya city. Here is our last stop in Mesopotamia tour. First of all, we will visit Hatay Archaeology Museum which has a rich collection of mosaics dating back to the Hellenistic and to the Roman Era in the 2nd and 3rd centuries and one of the biggest mosaic collections in the world. After the visit of museum, we will visit one of Christianity’s oldest church, St. Pierre Church.
End of the tour will be end of our service. We can transfer you to Antakya airport or hotel in Antakya. Thank you!
